Are you looking for hotels that allow cats for an upcoming trip or move? We’ve rounded up hotels–both upscale and budget–as well as extended stay hotels that either welcome cats at all locations or might welcome your cat, depending on the location.
Choosing a Cat Friendly Hotel
Unfortunately, staying in a hotel with a cat is not as simple as traveling with a dog when it comes to hotel pet policies.
While many hotels say they are “pet-friendly,” often this just includes dogs. In fact, Moxy Hotels even says on their website: “All of our hotel rooms welcome furry friends (so long as your friend is a dog and weighs 20 lbs. or less).”
Sigh.
However, other hotel chains are far more welcoming such as Kimpton hotels, which welcome all pets, and Loews Hotels which will even provide feline guests with scratching posts and litter boxes.
Far more hotels fall somewhere in the middle–with some locations welcoming cats but others not, even within the same hotel brand.
The answer? Call the hotel when you make your plans. And don’t just call the 800 reservation number–call the hotel itself. With so many pet policies even under the same hotel brand umbrella, you want to make sure the policy at the specific hotel location you are considering welcomes cats with open paws.
The Most Cat-Friendly Hotel Brands in 2023
These hotel chains have brand-wide policies for pets. Even though they have a set policy, you’ll still want to talk with the individual hotel (municipal regulations can always apply–and they may have a limited number of pet-friendly rooms per property) to let them know you will be bringing your cat.
Candlewood Suites
Cats (and dogs weighing under 80 pounds) are welcome at these pet-friendly chain hotels. The pet fee is for a 1- to 6-night stay is up to $75; a stay of seven nights or longer incurs a fee up to $150. Pets may be left unattended in rooms.
Canopy by Hilton
Canopy hotels are pet friendly and welcome cats! Fees apply and vary by property. Canopy properties add many local touches to your stay.
Drury Hotels
You may stay with up to two cats per room at Drury hotels, unless prohibited by law.
According to the pet policy page: “Pets (dogs and cats) are accepted at all Drury Hotels, if state and local laws permit. State guidelines for service animals apply, but service animals are free of charge at all Drury Hotels and are welcome in any area frequented by their owners. Rooms with pets (which may only include dogs and cats) will be charged a daily pet fee of $40 per room plus tax at all Drury and Pear Tree Inn by Drury hotels.”
Kimpton Hotels
The upscale Kimpton hotels are extremely pet-friendly and welcome cats–and all pets, regardless of size, weight, or breed for no additional fees or deposits.
La Quinta
La Quinta was long our go-to travel hotel with our dogs; when we had to evacuate our home due to a hurricane, our cats became La Quinta guests as well. This hotel is still very pet-friendly but they did change their pet policy a few years ago; instead of all locations being pet friendly (with no fee) now many locations charge a pet fee and some locations are no longer pet friendly.
The locations that are pet-friendly do accept cats; their pet policy page clearly states: “We love all kinds of animals, but only domestic pets, like cats and dogs, are allowed to stay at La Quinta.” Up to two pets are allowed per room.
La Quinta’s pet policy lists the properties that do not permit pets. It also states that a pet fee may be charged:
- A current contact number must be left with the front desk and an optional pet fee may be charged at check in ($20 per night for maximum of $40 per stay per room). Authorized service animals are not subject to a pet fee.
Loews Hotels
Loews is one of the most cat-welcoming hotel brands and, in fact, even says, “We’re happy to provide pet beds, litter boxes, scratching posts, pet toys and more.
They’ve even got litter scoopers for guests! You can travel with up to two cats per room; check the location’s webpage for fees.

Unless prohibited by local law, pets stay free at Motel 6. Pets should not be left unattended and rooms cannot be serviced with a cat present.

Unless prohibited by state or local law, Red Roof welcomes one pet–cat or dog–per room for no additional fee.
According to their pet policy:
“The Red Collection locations permit one family pet not to exceed 40 pounds at no additional charge. Due to state laws, ordinances, or contract provisions, not all of our locations can accept pets. The following locations are not able to accept your pet, but service animals are always welcome: Red Roof PLUS+ Washington DC – Oxon Hill, MD #181, Red Roof Inn & Suites Philadelphia – Bellmawr, NJ #332, Le Voyageur #1205, SPOT X Hotel – Orlando #1210, and Artel Hotel Times Square #1145.”

Hotels Brands that Allow Cats at Some Locations
The majority of pet-friendly hotel chains don’t have a brand-wide policy when it comes to which pets are permitted at which locations. You’ll want to search for your destination then check with the individual property for their policy. Here’s a basic rundown of what to expect from hotel chains that have numerous cat-friendly properties–but not every property in the brand.
Why are the pet policies so different between hotel locations?
The reason is often that some hotel chains are franchises, locally owned. Those hotels have more latitude in policy making.
Also, some locations are restricted by municipal codes which may prohibit pets or restrict the number of pets per room.
AC Hotels by Marriott
AC Hotels (with locations in 175 destinations) welcomes cats at many locations but you will need to check with the specific hotel.

Best Western
Over 1,200 of North America locations in this chain accept dogs–but not all of these accept cats. Policies vary between properties.
The hotel’s pet policy page notes, “Many hotels will accept cats, birds and other small animals. Please verify with the hotel prior to your stay as policies vary by hotel.” In terms of pet fees, the official page says, “There may be a maximum charge of $30 per day for each room with a pet or multiple pets, or a maximum charge per week of $150.
