Cat Decor: Leveraging Your Talents

In our continuing series of tips from celebrity designer Candice Olson, who recently judged the winning designs in Purina® Tidy Cats® Pet Projects Design Challenge, today the HGTV host discusses leveraging your own talents when designing for your cat:

I always say, ‘find something you love and stick with it.’ If you’re handy with a hammer, try constructing a kitty condo or building a scratching post.

Maybe you like to paint. If so, adding some (cat safe) color to existing cat products such as a litter box or food bowl will add attractive design accents to these functional elements.

Into crafting? Grab some material that matches your couch and cover an existing scratching post or make your cat a special pillow. To make it both fashionable and functional, consider making the scratching post with materials that match the décor of your room, such as sisal that match a rug.

Next: Make it unique for your cat
