What is a Cat Cafe?
Originating in Taiwan in 1998 and quickly expanding into Japan and beyond, cat cafes are a place for cat lovers to enjoy the cafe culture in the company of cats. First gaining popularity in Asia where many apartment dwellers couldn’t welcome a cat into their home, the concept caught on with cat lovers everywhere.
What Can You Do in a Cat Cafe?
Typically US and Canada cat cafes welcome guests who want to enjoy a cup of coffee (and often baked goods and more) in the cafe. A reservation system typically then allows entrance into the separate cat section for an hour or so of quiet time with the kitties. Due to health regulations, you’ll find that the cat and the food sections are separated.
Many cafes feature adoptable cats from local rescues.
