Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.
Every morning, John puts a big scoop of seeds in the bird feeder right outside our catio. Lucky races to the catio to watch the morning feeding which he knows will soon be followed by the arrival of cardinals, chickadees, titmice, and even sometimes woodpeckers.
John changes up the mixture a bit through the year, but, in general, the birds have a mixture of seeds such as sunflower, millet, safflower, thistle, peanuts, and corn. Some are cereal grains, some are grain legumes, others are oilseed grains.
Birds need grain.
Cats do not.
Cats are obligate carnivores, not just wanting but requiring a diet of meat. While the morning grains energize the birds (and apparently just watching the birds energizes Lucky), we know that, when it comes time for our cats’ morning meal, they need meat, not grain.
We’re happy that Nutrish Zero Grain cat food contains–you guessed it!–NO grain! As a cat’s diet would naturally be in nature, Zero Grain food means that MEAT is the number one ingredient. Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Zero Grain for Cats is made with simple, natural ingredients with zero grains, glutens or fillers. You’ll find that chicken or whitefish is always the number one ingredient, combined with wholesome potatoes, peas and carrots, plus the vitamins, minerals and taurine that your cat needs for a complete and balanced diet.
Many cats find grain-free a more allergy-friendly diet. I love that Zero Grain contains vitamins and minerals that cats need but doesn’t contain what they don’t need: grains, gluten, fillers, or artificial ingredients.
So the only grain that our cats will be enjoying will be the bird feeder grains that they spy from their perches in the catio!
Zero Grain is part of the Nutrish lineup of super-premium cat foods created by Rachael Ray in 2014 with help from cat nutrition experts at Ainsworth Pet Nutrition. Nutrish dry and wet cat food recipes are made with simple, wholesome ingredients like real meat or fish, and do not contain poultry by-product meal or fillers.
I also love that Nutrish does so much to help rescue. Rachael Ray’s personal proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue, created to help shelter pets in need. To date, she has donated over $14 million to help homeless pets! This money has gone toward food, medical supplies and treatments for animals awaiting their forever homes.
