Book: Cat and Crow: An Amazing Friendship
Author: Lisa Fleming
Publisher: Collage Books, Inc.
CatTipper Review: In the midst our technology-driven lives, it’s good to know we still have the ability to be thrilled by stories from the natural world, even those that on first hearing simply seem unbelievable. That’s one reason we value our pets so dearly. Our touchstones with nature, they remind us of the amazing things that can happen in the natural world.
So, “pet people” understand why the world was enthralled several years ago when the story of an unlikely friendship between a stray kitten and a wild crow was revealed on national media such as Oprah, National Geographic’s “Unlikely Animal Friends,” Miracle Pets and other venues. Now Lisa Fleming, a freelance journalist with a special interest in animals, has produced a children’s book telling the story of the unusual animal pair. Beautifully illustrated in color by Anne Marie Domink-Harris, a graphic designer, the book presents the story of Cassie the cat and Moses, the crow who befriended her.
Children and pet-centric adults will enjoy the simply-told story and the book also includes several appendices including clips from contemporary newspaper accounts about the pair’s friendship and “Fun Facts” about crows and cats. The book has been praised by several animal experts including Jack Hanna, host of the popular Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild TV show, who calls it “an example of the wonders of nature. This heartwarming book will have you smiling.”
Cat and Crow: an Amazing Friendship will be released on October 16, 2011 to coincide with National Feral Cat Day. It will be available at bookstores nationally and from the publisher’s website.
