As a spokesperson for the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization and a frequent foster of homeless cats and kittens, you could say that Beth Stern literally wrote the (children’s) book on caring for our four-legged friends. The author of two children’s books about cats, Stern makes her one of our Celebrity Cat Heroes.
Stern’s First Children’s Book: Yoda
A children’s book about a compassionate kitty helps cats and kittens in need turn the page to a new chapter in their lives.
Written by Beth Stern, TV personality and New York Times bestselling author of Oh My Dog, Yoda: The Story of a Cat and His Kittens is the true tale of a white Persian suffering from a heart condition whose rescue from a kill shelter led to life with a famous family.
First a foster feline in the home of America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern and his wife, today Yoda is a permanent purring presence alongside the high-profile pair’s other rescue cats– Apple, Bella, Charlie Boy, Leon Bear and Walter.
Yoda is a cat with a nurturing nature, and over the course of the 32-page book animal-loving little ones will learn about his penchant for parenting as he cleans the foster kitties, presides over their meals to make sure that they eat properly, keeps them safe and warm…. and in the process, the kind-hearted cat’s damaged heart begins to heal.
Just as this is a cheerful tale, the real life stories of multitudes of cats will soon conclude with “…and they lived happily ever after” thanks to sales of the book. All of the proceeds from Yoda: The Story of a Cat and His Kittens benefit Bianca’s Furry Friends— North Shore Animal League America’s 140,00 square-foot, cage-free Feline Wellness and Adoption Center.
Named in loving memory of the Stern’s late English Bulldog, the extension to North Shore Animal League America’s existing shelter includes a 24-hour kitten nursery, feline behavior department, grooming facilities, a kitten adoption area, a surgical suite and a recovery room.
Stern’s Second Children’s Book
Kitty-loving kids can continue to follow the true story of Howard and Beth Stern’s cat in Yoda Gets a Buddy as the compassionate cat befriends foster feline named Buddy, who is blind.
As his name suggests, Buddy is a pal to everyone, including Frankie, a foster who isn’t liked by the other kittens. Buddy doesn’t need the sense of sight to see that Frankie is a sweet fur baby, however, and he teaches the kittens how to look through the eyes of love.
Published by Aladdin Books, all of the proceeds from the sale of the 32-page story also benefits Bianca’s Furry Friends.
Beth Stern Visits Best Friends
Animal advocate Beth Stern, who hosted the Nat Geo Wild series Spoiled Rotten Pets, stopped by Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah to shine a spotlight on some adorable adoptables who are looking to land a starring role in the life of a loving pet parent.
The wife of America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern became fast friends with Consti, one of the 1,700 cats, canines and other companion animals who enjoy the comfort and care of the red rock canyon country facility as they wait for the day when they are adopted.
Touring all of the animal care areas during her stay at the sanctuary, Beth Stern is just one of the animal-loving luminaries who have visited Best Friends Animal Society in recent days. Jackson Galaxy from the Animal Planet series My Cat from Hell helped to promote the renowned rescue organization’s sleepover program, which offers participants the opportunity to enjoy quality time with one of Best Friends’ resident Fidos or felines while the sanctuary gains insight into the animal’s reaction to the home-like environment.
