When Is Take Your Cat to Work Day?

Take Your Cat to Work Day is held June 20, 2022. This pet holiday was launched by Petplan pet insurance after seeing that dogs had enjoyed Take Your Dog to Work Day® for decades.

What Can Cats Do at the Office?

Cats have long held the position of household supurrvisor. They work like a dog to ensure that their human doesn’t heedlessly place objects on countertops or shelves by jumping up to clear the clutter with a swipe of a paw!

Cat also work by making sure that their morning meows act as an alarm clock to alert pet parents to the fact that it’s time to wake up and feed their feline friend.

So it’s a natural step that cats can also thrive in an office!

On this cat holiday, our purring pals can get their mitts on a computer mouse, hang out at the water cooler to learn the latest buzz, secure documents by sitting on paperwork, or simply take a power cat nap, with their pet parent by their side.

Employees of Petplan pet insurance, which offers workers a pet-friendly atmosphere, suggest employing the following tips to make Take Your Cat to Work Day fun for felines.

Dress for Success

Cats should come dressed for both success and safety by wearing a collar, ID tag and perhaps a bell in order to let your co-workers know when the boss cat is coming.

Pack for Success

Let your cat enjoy the comforts of home at the office by bringing a few of your kitty’s favorite toys or a bed, and don’t neglect the essentials:

  • bowls for food and water
  • something for your cat to nom on
  • a litter box

Cat-Proof Your Office

Just as you would kid-proof a home for the arrival of a child, kit-proof your office space by checking to see that all electrical cords are secured safely out of the reach of curious cats.

“Cats bring something special to the workday,” states Natasha Ashton, Petplan co-founder and co-CEO.

“Dogs may get tons of attention for their clowning enthusiasm, but our feline friends both soothe and charm. We have found that cats contribute every bit as much to a happy and productive workplace as their canine counterparts. It is our hope that companies who allow dogs in the office will open their doors to cats, too. Take Your Cat to Work Day is the perfect opportunity for workplaces to include all pet parents in the fun.”
