Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day

As pet parents we have all mulled over the inner workings of our meowing friend’s mind, and while we may never be able to fully comprehend our cat’s contemplations, every year fans of felines are asked to be more observant of what their purring pals are trying to convey through both body language and vocalization in recognition of National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day.

When is Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day?

National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day is observed every year on January 22. This cat holiday was the brainchild of Wellcat.com, the minds behind Happy Mew Year for Cats Day, Cat Herder’s Day, What if Cats & Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day, Pet Owner’s Independence Day and many more.

What Would YOUR Cat Ask?

Lucky the tuxedo cat awaits your answer!

If your cat could communicate through human language, what quizzical inquiries would he or she make?

“Why don’t I ever see you groom each other?”

“Why does the dog get to go outside, and I don’t?”

Questions Our Cats Ask

Russian Blue mix Linus Linus: “Why are those two dogs so large? Are they giants?”

Dear Linus,

No, the dogs are not giants; they are just fairly large dogs. We understand that they sometimes take up more than their share of the bed or the couch but please know that we always try to make sure you have plenty of room.

Black cat Inca Inca: “Why can’t I go outside?”

Dear Inca,

We know you would really love to go outside (and every time you hear Tiki ring the bell to go outside you head over to the door) but it’s just not possible. We live in a coyote-filled area and there are no outdoor cats remaining in this valley because of that. We have a catio and lots of good windows and perches for you to enjoy in the house, though, and plenty of good company in here for you to enjoy in the safety of the house.

Turkish Van Coco loves water Coco: “Why don’t the other cats like to play in water?”

Dear Coco,

The other cats do not like to play in water because they are cats. Our question is why YOU like to play in water so much and enjoy nothing better than putting your head under the faucet, jumping into the shower, and playing in your drinking fountain. We think it is just part of what makes you Coco, though, and makes you so special.
