Each week, Jackson Galaxy calms cantankerous kitties on the hit Animal Planet series My Cat from Hell, and now everyone’s favorite guitar case-carrying guardian angel for fractious felines is also bringing cat mojo to animal shelters through an initiative that’s heaven sent.
The Jackson Galaxy Foundation, which was launched in late 2014, is teaming up with animal shelters from coast to coast for Cat Pawsitive, a pilot program which trains shelter staff in positive reinforcement methods in order to increase cat adoptions.
Starting April 19th, nine shelters across the country–from small, limited admission facilities to large, open-admission shelters–will get the opportunity to tap into the knowledge of a team of animal behavior experts during three webinars. Shelter staff can also turn for help from the trainers thanks to direct access for consultations throughout the program’s three-month period.
Created by America’s favorite Cat Daddy and the chosen feline behavior experts, the Cat Pawsitive program will strive to enrich the lives of shelter cats, strengthen their social skills, highlight the need for a human-cat bond and improve the cats’ chances to find forever families to love.
“Our goal with Cat Pawsitive isn’t just to keep cats in the shelter behaviorally and physically active–we’re also working to empower staff and volunteers to continue using positive reinforcement methods when the program concludes,” reality personality Jackson Galaxy relayed. “This program will raise the public profile of cats, demonstrate their trainability and serve as a model for organizations helping animals everywhere.”
“We are thrilled to be working with organizations all over the country to show the world wheat can be done to step up the game, and improve outcomes for cats in shelters,” the My Cat from Hell star stated.
