Nominate a Courageous Cat for Pets of Valor Award

In recognition of courageous kitties and canines, nominations are now being accepted for the Pets of Valor Award.

Presented by The Humane Society of the United States, the honor will be bestowed on a rescue or adopted dog or lion-hearted cat whose tale best represents the unbreakable bond between people and pets.

Uggie, the charismatic canine who won the hearts of film fans in the Academy Award-winning flick The Artist, has accepted the role of spokesdog for the accolade that lets heroic companion animals step into the spotlight. When speaking about his canine companion’s thoughts regarding the inclusion of cats in the competition, Uggie’s pet parent/trainer Omar Von Muller replied that “…now he likes the idea of having an excuse to bark for them, instead of at them.”

Through April 12, 2013 dog devotees and fans of feline are invited to nominate a rescue or adopted canine or cat who has done a courageous deed between January 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013. Five finalists will be selected by animal experts, with the top dog (or cat!) chosen by a public online vote which will run from May 24 – 31, 2013.
