British Celebrities Judge National Cat Awards

This August sports lovers will be cheering for gold medal-winning athletes in London at the 2012 Olympics, and fans of felines will be applauding purrers who have won over hearts at Cats Protection’s National Cat Awards.

Taking place August 16th at The Savoy Hotel in London, kitties competing in five ‘cat’egories will be chosen by a panel of celebrity judges which include music legend Rick Wakeman, model Lucy Pinder, comedian Ed Byrne and ex-BBC newsreader Jan Leeming.

Former Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who took part in Cats Protection’s 2011 I’m a Celebrity…Let Me Volunteer! campaign, will select the winner in the Best Friend category among cats who help their human families cope with depression, anxiety and Behcets Syndrome.

Mom to four felines, model Lucy Pinder– who became by role model by taking part in Cats Protection’s 2012 celebrity version of their volunteer campaign– will pick the Hero Cat from a brave batch which includes a cat who stopped a burglar in his tracks, a feline who protected his pet parents from a potentially fatal gas explosion and a kitty who saved the day when his guardian collapsed from a hypoglycemic attack.

Awards will also be presented to the winners of Most Incredible Story, Outstanding Rescue Cat and Celebrity Cat.

The largest feline welfare charity in the United Kingdom, Cats Protection provides comfort and care for approximately 6,200 cats and kittens every day, and helps to find forever homes for more than 48,000 of out feline friends each year.
