Hitting a home run in the hearts of animal lovers, Matt Wieters of the Baltimore Orioles is the latest baseball star to go to bat for pets in peril as part of the Mayor’s Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission’s Show Your Soft Side campaign in Baltimore.
Posing with two members of his home team– a rescue cat named Omaha and three-year-old German Shepherd Millie— the All-Star catcher hopes that the image will help to change the mindset of misguided adolescents who are under the impression that cruelty to cats and canines is a mark of masculinity.
Snapped by photographer Leo Howard Lubow, the photo is one in a continuing series of compassionate portraits featuring famous figures with their four-legged friends.
While dogs have dominated many of the campaign’s billboards and posters which are appearing throughout the city of Baltimore, the cats of NFL great Quadry Ismail and MMA fighter John Rallo have also had the opportunity to lap up the limelight as they help the paws cause.
