It’s hard to believe, but today marks one year since Jetty joined our family!
We adopted Jetty on Sept. 1, 2017 at Austin Pets Alive!, one of many, many homeless animals who had been moved to Austin from shelters along the coast both before and after Hurricane Harvey struck on August 25. Jetty was from the city of Victoria, which received devastating flooding from the storm, and she came to Austin in a transport with other kittens from animal control. We’d been seeing photos of the transports in the APA Instagram feed as we began thinking of adoption following the loss of our dear Ochi to cancer on August 25, the day the storm struck.
On Sept. 1, we went to Austin Pets Alive to see the adoptables, eventually going to the Tarrytown location to meet a cat named Sunday:
About three months old, this kitten was covered in fire ant bites from her time in the flood waters–but as playful and loving as could be. Sunday came home with us that day…
…and was soon renamed Jetty, in honor of the South Jetty in Port Aransas, our favorite coastal getaway and one that was incredibly hard hit by Harvey. The stone jetty, built to protect the land from the Gulf, however, stood strong in the face of the storm.
Today Jetty is best friends with Lucky…
…and where we find one, the other is usually no more than inches away. She loves everyone in the house, and has a special bond with our puppy Barli, almost as if they both recognize that they’re the youngsters in the house…
Happy 1st Gotcha Day, Jetty!!
