Last December I wrote a post about remembering our cats of Christmas past and the joy that Ochi was bringing into our lives on our first Christmas with her after the loss of Linus and Coco in the previous months and Felix the previous year.
So much has changed. This year, we’re celebrating our six-month-old kitten Jetty’s first Christmas. As our regular readers know, we lost Ochi to cancer on August 25th of this year at the age of just 18 months. The day we lost Ochi was the day Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, and Jetty found herself in floodwaters near the coast. A few days later, Jetty was transported to Austin, and we adopted her on September 1.
In this time of joyous firsts with Jetty, it’s bittersweet as we remember previous holidays. This year, we didn’t get our Christmas ornaments out, only a few items for window decorations. It’s largely because Jetty will pounce on anything new but also because it’s difficult to unbox the memories.
I know many of you, too, are having a hard time with the memories of Christmas celebrations past this year.
As time has gone by, we now remember Linus…
…and Felix…
…and Coco…
…and we laugh about the good times and all the love we shared. For now, Ochi’s memory is still just too close to the surface and every photo brings tears…but I’ll get there. Wishing everyone a season of peace and happy memories…
