Remembering Linus, 2000-2016

linus

This Easter weekend was a very sad one; on Sunday night, our sweet Linus passed away. We are heartbroken. He has been a focal point of our lives for the past 16 years, and today the house just feels so, so quiet without his talking and his energetic personality.

We adopted Linus (from the Austin Humane Society) in May 2000, just a month after we adopted Felix. At the time, we had Felix, who was a feral, and Elaine, a sweet, shy cat whose timidity wasn’t helping Felix becoming more trusting. So we headed to the shelter to find the most outgoing kitten we could find. Sitting in an adoption room with a litter of kittens, we knew when one climbed up on top of my head that we’d found the one.

Linus stepped into his role of little brother and took over the house, settling in like he was born here and, for seven years, the Linus-Felix-Elaine trio shared our hearts.

When Elaine passed away of a heart condition in 2007, we again headed back to the shelter, and Linus moved into the role of big brother to Inca and then to Coco…

When our dogs Irie and Tiki joined our home in 2008, he became their big brother as well.

When Felix passed away two years ago, Linus found himself in the big brother role again, this time with Lucky. Whether because of Lucky’s resemblance to Felix or because he came into our lives just after his loss, Linus and Lucky were instantly bonded.

Linus loved chicken, his water fountain, and his catio–and, most especially, his family.

We will never forget you, Linus. Our house will not be the same without you.
