As you probably know, before John and I were pet writers, we were travel writers. We specialized in the Caribbean including the Mexican Caribbean so we were lucky enough to visit the small island of Isla Mujeres several times. It’s a land of fun in the sun, great food, and a laid-back atmosphere.
Isla Mujeres is just a short ferry ride from Cancun, great as a day trip or a destination all its own…
The island is absolutely beautiful but, like everyplace around the world, has a homeless pet population. Luckily for those homeless pets, they have a great advocate is Alison Sawyer Current (photo, right), founder of Isla Animals.
Not only does Current assist the homeless pet population on the island, but she also helps the pet owners care for their animals, whether that’s help with ticks or spay and neuter. She also works with travelers to help set up transports of cats and dogs to foster families and adopters.
Recently I had the chance to interview this remarkable rescue advocate via Skype for a post on Skype.com. I hope you’ll check out my post about ways you can help homeless pets when you travel and watch the video interview. Be sure to follow Isla Animals on Facebook as well to see the amazing work this rescue accomplishes!
