Arkansas Week for the Animals

The official nickname´of Arkansas may have changed to “The Natural State,” but for one week in October the state is once again “The Land of Opportunity” as cat enthusiasts join those with compassion for all creatures great and small for the opportunity to make a positive change in the lives of our friends with fur, fins and feathers.

Established in 2010 by Animal World USA, October 24 – November 1st has been proclaimed the 6th annual Arkansas Week for the Animals by Governor Asa Hutchinson. The pet holiday will feature a wide array of animal-themed activities, with our feline friends benefiting from adoption events, low-cost spay/neuter procedures, volunteers winterizing animals shelters, and much more.

Although the pet holiday is already underway, there is still plenty of time for Arkansas animal lovers to celebrate the joy that our pals with paws and claws bring to our lives. Following are just a few of the events taking place throughout the state:

October 30th

Trick or Treat on the Square complete with a Pet Costume Contest in Fayetteville

October 31st

Humane Society of Garland County Adoption Day at the Farmers Market in Hot Springs
Humane Society of Faulkner County Cat Adoption Day in Conway
Humane Society of North Central Arkansas 4th Annual NCA Emergency Preparedness Fair (with low-cost spay/neuter and pet food assistance programs) in Mountain Home
Fall Colors Tree Talk and Tour in Fayetteville
Humane Society of Saline County Adoption Day at Petco in Little Rock
Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League Pet Offsite Adoptions at Petco in Benton
Bella Vista Animal Shelter in Bella Vista (visitors are invited to check out the facility’s expanded cat room and isolation area for injured or ill animals)
Maumelle Friends of the Animals Adoption Day at Petsmart in North Little Rock
Needy Paws Adoption Day at Petsmart in Russellville
North Little Rock Animal Control Mobile Adoption at Lakewood Village in North Little Rock
Madison County Pet Shelter Bingo for Animals in Huntsville

November 1st

A Prayer for the Animals (animal lovers of all faiths are asked to pray or meditate from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Central Time for a better tomorrow for both pets and wildlife)

…plus throughout the week animal lovers can also take part in birdwatching events, guided hikes of Huckabee Nature Center, a tree talk and tour at The Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, the Lake Dardanelle Eagle Tour in Russellville, and much more!
