11 Celebrities Who Adopted Rescue Cats in 2014

SomerhalderAs we get ready to welcome the new year, CatTipper takes a look back at a few of the famous faces who welcomed a purring pal from a rescue or shelter into their heart and home in 2014:

Jonathan Antoine— Fans are singing the praises of the teenage operatic tenor for choosing the option of adoption. The performer, who rose to fame on season six of Britain’s Got Talent, found his new four-legged friend– a Siamese mix kitten named Willow– at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Clare Bowen— She stars as a rising country music singer/songwriter on the ABC drama series Nashville, but offscreen the actress recently took on the real life role of a loving pet parent to a cuddly kitten from Nashville Cat Rescue. The star adopted Lumiere on the day she acted as co-emcee of the 6th annual Mars Pet Adoption Fair.

Scott Clifton— A ‘cat’meo appearance on the CBS daytime drama The Bold & The Beautiful during a story arc about pet adoption led to a coveted role in the life of a soap star for Walter White, a kitty who got his big break while at the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter.

John Hannah— Fans know him from blockbuster movies like Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Mummy, but Milo– a kitten rescued by RSPCA Southall Cattery— knows the acclaimed actor as her doting Dad.

Tricia Helfer— Prissie, a tiny tabby who is now a part of the former Battlestar Galactica cast member’s fur family, is one of the approximately 1,000 cats and kittens in the L.A. area who find forever pet parents each year thanks to Kitten Rescue.

BJ Laflin— Football-loving fans of felines cheered for the former San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys cheerleader when she chose to add a beautiful black cat into her fur family. The TV personality/sportscaster met Miss Patsy Cline on the day she helped to shine a spotlight on canines and cats who were looking for forever families at the NKLA Adoption Weekend in Los Angeles.

Jason Mraz— The singer who climbed to the top of the charts with his toe-tapping single “I’m Yours’ said “You’re mine” when he met Prancer, his purring pal, at the San Diego Humane Society.

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder— They’ve portrayed immortals on the big and small screen in the Twilight film franchise and the hit CW series The Vampire Diaries, and offscreen the two stars have a a mutual undying devotion for animals in need. In October the high-profile pair adopted Sohalia from Rockdale County Animal Shelter in Conyers, Georgia. Sharing the news with fans, Somerhalder stated: “Unfortunately this little kid was wildly mislabels as ‘feral/not friendly,’ and had Nikki not gone in and opened her cage regardless, we would have never found out that she is the most loving kitty on the planet and she may have been put down.”

Ed Sheeran— He’s up for Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year, and while only time will tell if the “Lego House” singer will garner any Grammys when the awards are handed out in 2015, the crooner has already won the admiration of cat lovers for giving a forever home to Graham, a shelter kitten.

Florence Welch— The lead singer of the popular indie band Florence and The Machine put a song in the hearts of her feline-loving fans when she adopted a four-year-old tortoiseshell cat named Missus from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Speaking about her meowing muse, the “Dog Days are Over” vocalist stated: I chose misses because she was extremely friendly, and, straight away, came to sit on my lap where she seemed to make herself quite comfortable. She’ll be a very good writing partner and we’ll probably spend lots of time together.”
