Simon’s Cat Logic Explains a Cat’s Relationship with Water

Cats seem to have a love/hate relationship with H2O.  Although many may abhor the idea of being washed with water (a ritual that seldom needs to be employed thanks to their fastidious grooming habits) and shake their paw in disgust at merely stepping into a tiny puddle of the wet stuff, these same felines will find themselves mesmerized at the sight of water flowing from a tap. Perplexed cat parents can drink in the knowledge poured forth in the following Simon’s Cat Logic video, “Do Cats Really Hate Water?”, which helps to explain our feline friends’ combined fear of, and fascination with, water.

Why do cats love to lick droplets from a dripping faucet or prefer to sip from a drinking fountain? This behavior is a domesticated kitty tapping into his or her inner wild cat, as big cats would much rather lap up fresh water from a running stream rather than still water in a pond.

How can a pet parent make drinking an enjoyable experience for their purring pal?

According to cat behavior expert Nicky Trevorrow, serve your feline friend water from a wide and shallow bowl made of ceramic or metal, located a short distance away from your cat’s meal.

Why should your feline’s food and water be separate?

Again, this conduct is your cat’s unintentional tribute to the little lion or tiger that still lives in their soul, as big cats eat their kill away from drinking water to avoid contamination.

“Do Cats Really Hate Water?” is the latest in an ongoing series of edu-cat-ional Simon’s Cat Logic videos which strives to explain the occasional quirky comportment of our kitty companions.  Other comical clips in the series include:
