As friends of felines we try our best to discern our cat’s moods through their meows and mannerisms, but sometimes the reasons behind our purring pal’s behavior can seem sketchy. Helping to draw a clear picture of cat comportment, cartoonist Simon Tofield of Simon’s Cat fame has partnered with a Cat Behavior Expert at Cats Protection for the first in a series of Simon’s Cat Logic videos.
Have you ever wondered why your four-legged roomie suddenly gets a case of the zoomies? Jess, one of Simon Tofield’s four felines, has acted as a muse for this cute clip, in which Cats Protection expert Nicky Trevorrow explains that a cat’s burst of boisterous behavior comes from the primal need to hunt for food. Now that cats have their humans open up a can of cat food when hunger strikes, their excess energy is burned off in sudden spurts of silliness. Teaser wands can magically help to curb a cat’s craziness as they seek and pounce on the ‘prey’ that dangles from the rod.
A pal to those with paws, Simon Tofield has teamed up with Cats Protection on several occasions. In the past he has helped to promote the organization’s Black Cat Awareness Day, taken part in the cat welfare charity’s annual Celebrity Paws auction, and earlier this year he paid a visit to the Cats Protection Adoption Center in Sussex as research for his short film Off to the Vet.
Cats Protection is the leading feline welfare charity in the United Kingdom, with more than 218,000 cats and kittens receiving care at 31 adoption centers and more than 250 volunteer-operated branches.
