Commuters accustomed to advertising posters on the walls of the Clapham Common Tube Station in London were recently greeted by the sight of cats, cats, and more cats, all highlighted on ad space that is being used to help sell the public on the option of pet adoption.
Purchased by the “Glimpse” art group with help from hundreds of Kickstarter supporters, 68 posters featuring cats from across the pond presently bring a bit of cheer to travelers as they wait for the subway or exit the station.
Photogenic felines from two of the United Kingdom’s most prominent animal welfare charities are lapping up the limelight thanks to posters put in place by the Citizens Advertising Takeover Service (aka CATS). Some of the charismatic kitties captured on camera are from Cats Protection, which was established in 1927 and today cares for approximately 200,000 cats and kittens in need each year at 32 adoption centers and more than 250 volunteer-operated branches. Other meow-dels are from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, a charity which began caring for kitties back in 1883. In 2015 alone, Battersea helped approximately 8,000 homeless companion animals, more than 3,500 of them cats.
Along with posters of adorable adoptables, one advertising space is filled with photos of felines from forever families who made a monetary contribution to make the campaign a reality.
