The efforts of a kind-hearted kitty whose eyes (one gold and one blue) see a vision for a better tomorrow for those in need thanks to his vocation as a therapy cat will be applauded as he is honored as the Cat of the Year at ASPCA’s annual Humane Awards Luncheon, which will take place on November 13th at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.
Abandoned on the side of the road back in 2006, a striking white cat named Studley was put on the path to recovery by his new forever guardian– a shelter volunteer from Joint Animal Services who nursed him back to health. Like his human pet parent, Studley has a nurturing nature, and since 2007 the friendly feline’s purring presence has been a welcome sight at the Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington, where he frequently visits patients in the psychiatric unit. Today Studley is the only therapy cat among more than 30 animals in the Providence Animal-Assisted Activities and Therapy Program.
Along with Studley’s dogged determination to make a difference, this year the ASPCA Humane Awards Luncheon will also honor a 10-year-old girl with a special wish; a Pit Bull who has given back to others after his life transformed from tragedy to triumph; and a 12-term Congressman who has created great change for animals in need during his time in office.
