He may portray a cantankerous physician who recoils from both people and pets in the popular Britcom series Doc Martin, but when he’s not on screen actor Martin Clunes enjoys stepping into his real life role as a friend to all with feathers, fins and fur.
Fascinated by our four-legged friends, the TV star– who recently helped to shine a spotlight on the beauty of big cats in the wildlife series Martin Clunes & A Lion Called Mugie (which was filmed at the Kora National Reserve in Kenya)– has now narrated a feline-themed sequel to the ITV special Secret Life of Dogs.
On June 2nd a virtual clowder of kitty devotees in the UK will gather around their TV sets to watch Secret Life of Cats, a one-hour documentary which will dispel myths about our purring pals as it offers insight into both the physical and psychological workings of the bewhiskered wonders.
The special will introduce viewers to Basil, a cat who helped to save his pet parents from a gas leak; Jessi-cat, a compassionate kitty whose unconditional love for a young boy with Asperger’s Syndrome and selective mutism has helped the child express his emotions; and a cat who has become a companion to a blind labrador retriever.
The documentary will also follow a feline’s progression from birth to adulthood and offer insight into how cats experience the world through their senses.
Produced by Oxford Scientific Films, Secret Life of Cats will air June 2nd at 9 p.m. on ITV, STV and UTV in the UK.
