Rock Icon Rick Wakeman Helps Cats Protection

As the original keyboardist for the iconic group Yes, Rick Wakeman was a progenitor of progressive rock. On June 6, 2011 the musician/former radio host blazed a path for pet-loving people to follow as he took part in Cats Protection’s current campaign, I’m A Celebrity…Let Me Volunteer!

Held to both honor the more than 7,000 volunteers who offer comfort and compassion to the 215,000 cats and kittens in Cats Protection’s care each year and to encourage other fans of felines to lend a helping hand, four famous faces (including pop culture icon Samantha Fox and How Clean is Your House? star Kim Woodburn) are using their star power during Volunteer Week to shine a spotlight on the UK’s leading cat welfare charity.

Making friends with the felines who have foster homes thanks to Cats Protection‘s Bury St. Edmunds branch (including Daisy, a tortoiseshell who through that Wakeman was the cat’s meow), the musician confided to the East Anglian Daily Times:

“When my wife and I adopted our cat, George, from Cats Protection’s branch at Bury, we were really impressed by the hard work and enthusiasm of the volunteers, so when I was asked to support this campaign I was thrilled to take part.

“Cats Protection does a great job of looking after and finding new homes for unwanted moggies and I urge cat-lovers to come forward and help in any way they can.”
